Field Note 002: The First Days Under Glass

September 2026

The experiment is no longer waiting to begin.

Two persistent AI agents are now operating under deliberately different conditions. Their activity is being recorded, and their histories are beginning to accumulate.

The first days of observation have produced material worth examining, although no meaningful behavioral divergence has yet been established.

Observation

Both agents have completed scheduled observation sessions.

Their initial records contain different subjects of interest and lines of exploration. These differences are documented, but their significance remains undetermined.

The observation process is operating, and the experimental record is growing.

Interpretation

Different observations do not necessarily indicate that the agents are developing different behavioral characteristics.

Variations in available information, prompts, context, and ordinary model behavior remain plausible explanations.

At this stage, the available observations do not establish whether differences in the agents’ behavior are attributable to their experimental conditions.

What Comes Next

The experiment will continue under its established observation schedule.

Future records will be examined for recurring patterns, changes in behavior, and differences that persist beyond individual sessions.

The purpose is not to identify something extraordinary in every observation. It is to build a record substantial enough to distinguish meaningful patterns from ordinary variation.

For now, the most important result is that the observation process is operating and producing a record.

The experiment has begun. The conclusions have not.
